January 16th and January 23 I'll be giving a two part Cold Wax Workshop at the Wild Salamander in Hollis NH.
Cold WAx offers a great range to add to your oil paintings. They add translucent qualities like encaustics without the fumes of heating the wax. You will learn how to create texture and explore non-traditional tools to create a rich layered surface in your work. http://app.mainstreetsites.com/dmn2233/workshops.html?sem1=15748&sem0=18162#sem0
A few exemplars of my cold wax pieces.
Yesterday was the Umass Lowell Women's Works Holiday Art Fair. Nancy and I started doing this one together a few years ago. WE always like a little extra money at Christmas. Who doesn't! And this has been one of our favorites. It always feels like a party. You can see why these are all our friends that were there yesterday. There are usually little kid carolers, Nancy;s Sister will entertain on the ukulele and always the Umass Lowell version of The Barden Bellas,.
Sadly no one told about half the usual customers that it changed locations to a new building. So we partied alone. The first pix is Nancy French, my friends Janet and her husband KC, My neighbor from Pepperell Hilda, Margaret and Rozsi , Meredith and Judi.
I started playing some Christmas tunes yesterday. Blaze Starr raced through my head, I meet her about thirty years ago, right after Thanksgiving. I found out over Thanksgiving that she passed away, way back in the summer. Blaze Starr for those of who are not in the know was one of the most famous strippers that ever was. There was a movie about her with Paul Newman, the movie was about her affair with the Governor of Louisiana Earl Long. She also had a supposed liaison with JFK. She never confirmed of denied that liason with me- she would just smile. But she did conform that she meet him in a closet in the White House. She just never went into any detail about what happened in the closet in the White House with JFK.
Blaze loved making jewelry, after she retired, she made lots of pretty jewelry and she would sell her wares outside of the pub I use to waitress at. When I would get a break I could either hang out in the back of the pub and gossip with the other wait staff. Or Or grab a salad with that "famous 90's dressing the ranch stuff" and offer it too Blaze with a cup cappuccino and chat with her.... I always choose to chat with Blaze. She was fun, loved what she did loved making her jewelry. and did not really mind all the stares she got. She was a bright light. And I was just thinking about her and sad to hear of her passing and I'll always think of her with Christmas tunes... and that damn mall all those Christmas tune went on in and endless loop.
