It's a gorgeous National Park, My son spent a week there in May rock climbing hiking ect...But the strange thing is that while we were there my husband and i kept thinking it' really doesn't seem like a National Park, And America;s favorite place? There was lots to do we hiked, we climbed on the rocks, we trooped around Cadillac Mt, my favorite time was out on the sea kayak., skirting around some island with at least 2-3 bald eagles flying over head.
Then it hit me one evening while we were skirting in and out of cute little shops in Bar Harbor. ( That we were also having a great time doing) In almost ever NP we've visited we stayed in the NP, not really camping but roughing it a bit, no tv no phones ... the evening were spent exploring different areas of the park. Watching the sunset over the lakes or the mountains. Talking around the camp fire, talking to the park rangers. The evening were always the best, much less people, I love the way the way the sun rakes across the sky in the evening.
So our last night Sam had the idea to have a picnic up on Cadillac Mt (we had Margarita pizza) Then we made the loop to sand beach, thunder hole, otter point, at dusk climbing the rocks to take in the view. It was wonderful. Not our most favorite park, probably not even in our top ten but lovely.
People you need to go out west to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Rainier and Yosemite!
